Joana Roque de Pinho, Angela Kronenburg García, Lenaai ole Mowuo, Stanley ole Neboo and Matinkoi ole Mowuo presented their work on the COVID-19 pandemic and Maasai ilpuli, or “meat camps”, at the Oxford Desert Conference on March 16th, 2023. A finding of particular relevance to the MYNA project is the way in which evangelical beliefs and practices are accommodated into the traditional Maasai ilpuli, reflecting contrasting ideas regarding animal slaughter and the consumption of blood.
